Clear directions & care plan printed out & handed to me. Wow!
Every single person I came into contact with - on the phone and in clinic - was beyond wonderful. However, when it comes to the intake of transgender patients, such as myself, there is a total and complete lack of procedure. The issue is this: not once at any point during intake was I asked what my current, legal gender was. I have been aggressively denied medication at an emergency room clinic before because they input the wrong gender marker when filling out my insurance info. Had I not called and spoken to a billing manager before my appointment - who then had to manually modify it on her end - it would have been submitted to insurance incorrectly, because the ONLY question regarding gender/sex during my entire intake and visit was "birth gender: female".There are more issues around this (whoever wrote it had the awareness to specify birth gender, but then chose to not follow up with a single question about identity) but that is the most glaring. This can and will directly result in pain, stress, and headache for anyone else that is transgender and legally transitioned who chooses to be honest with you about their birth sex.At this point in time and until this is corrected I cannot, in good faith, recommend this clinic to anyone. The people were WONDERFUL, and everyone I interacted with was friendly and knowledgeable and respectful. The current intake procedures, however, fall steeply behind any semblance of modern expectations, and will inevitably screw over someone who, unlike me, has not already learned what to watch out for through unfortunate life experience. Thank you for your time - sincerely. I am an LGBT educator and am truly hoping for improvement here.I also want to point out that the in-person staff immediately caught on that there was an issue after I asked the front desk person if they could check what my insurance was listed under and briefly explained why I was worried. She could only advise that I check with billing, but when I was brought into the back rooms by a nurse, I was called for by my last name and not my first name, and while we were talking about name pronunciations she explained that there was a note telling her to do that. She also said that they were actively working on improving the system and it's very much a work in progress. Calling out my last name instead was a very kind and thoughtful spur-of-the-moment decision, presumably by the front desk worker, who was presumably working within the confines of a system that didn't allow input of a custom preferred name or gender. My legal name does now better reflect my gender but there was a time where it did not - and had it still not, their move would have saved me from a huge sense of public humiliation and dysphoria. So huge props to them for that.Thank you again!
Excellent communication by team members and very thorough in explanation for the plan of care when leaving.
Care plan was written down for me to take with me when I left.
Very good
Very happy with plan.
Best experience I have ever had in a surgical center. Truly good people working there!
