As the patient's parent I have been extremely happy with care at MNGI. He has been a patient since 2015. He recently went to college in Idaho and we tried for a year to use a GI doctor out there. We realized the quality of care was not as close as was at MNGI so we recently resumed care with MNGI . The way the clinic is run and the quality of doctors makes it worth it for him to return care to MNGI.

*Dr. Kandiel always understands what I am telling him & usually has an answer. If not, he does what he can to get to the bottom of the situation.

I have Celiac Disease, diagnosed 4 years ago. I had a less than great experience when I was there in 2017 so I avoided coming back. I needed to see a gastroenterologist to discuss some low zinc levels which were found during blood work with my primary. I called to specifically see someone who knew about Celiac Disease. Was told "anyone can see you for that". I show up for my appointment and discuss what is going on. I mention that I have some sores on my tongue and when I was there last that Dr literally shrugged his shoulders at me when I asked him about it. The PA responded with "Well, Dr and I don't specialize in Celiac so we don't really know." Well then why was I told that basically anyone could help me when I called to make an appointment? The PA also said that I could see only TWO providers in the entire practice that know anything about Celiac Disease. All of the providers at MNGI and only 2 know about Celiac Disease? It felt like I was being pushed off. No desire at all to look into what I asked about.

The clinic was very quiet the day I was there. The PA ordered lab work and I felt like the order was never put in (or seen). I waited and waited in the exam room and then the nurse came in and looked at my paperwork and realized lab work was ordered. I was never told how I'd hear about the results. I just figured I'd get a call. The PA I saw recommended that I see a Dietitian for my low zinc levels. But she told me which foods contain zinc and that it could be related poor absorption so she'd order antibody levels to check how I'm doing on my gluten-free diet. She also ordered zinc labs to double check where I was at since I have been better at taking my supplements since my initial blood work. The next day I got a text saying that I should call to make a dietitian appointment. Then 2 days later I got a call from scheduling about making an appointment with the dietitian. But I still had not heard about my tests results so why would I schedule with a dietitian if I don't even know if I need to see them? I waited until the next week and still did not hear about my lab results. So I sent an email through the patient portal and someone said my account needed "a fix" and then I could see 2 of my 3 lab results. Turns out my zinc is fine and I don't feel I need to see a dietitian for that. It all felt backwards. Two weeks out and I still don't know about my antibody test, but it was the holiday that last week so I'll let that slide. But I feel like I am going to have to follow-up again. I honestly don't want to have to come back to MNGI but there really aren't any other options. I feel like I can get more thorough and personable care and follow-up by just seeing my primary for anything Celiac related.

I sensed *Dr. Skagen was caring when she did 4 procedures and talked to me after. I'm happy I waited to see her. She listened, explained and didn't rush me out. As busy as she must be, I felt like my health mattered.

*If you are having a procedure and planning a bus route home, you must have a responsible adult accompany you home after the procedure.
